Why We Do What We Do...

We received this amazing thank you note and wanted to share it with all of you because it is your generosity in donating that makes notes like this one possible...

I wanted to say a very special thank you for all you do for the NICU families at CCMC. It is a wonderful way to honor your daughter and all the other special children and families that have spent time in the NICU. Our son was recently born over 5 weeks early and while he was one of the bigger and healthier babies, we still spent 12 stressful days in the NICU. 

While no one knows expects their baby to end up in the NICU, the incredible people that we met from the nurses, doctors and PCAs to the other families and graduates, made what could have been a trying time much easier. On a particularly stressful morning when we found out that Kellen's feeding tube had to be put back in over night because he didn't eat enough, I was sitting by his bed, pumping through tears and the social worker came around with these cute little preemie outfits and a tag from Doing Good in Her Name. It is sometimes the little things that get you through the rough parts. I of course went to your site as soon as I was home on the computer and was so moved by your story. Our time in the NICU definitely changed our lives. It is a place where you really experience how amazing and giving people are, where you are in awe of the medical miracles that exist today, and where you learn to appreciate each and every day to the fullest. 

We've been home for several weeks now and I keep meaning to thank you and to inquire about donations and how the charity works. I have been collecting a bunch of items that I would like to donate and was curious if there was somewhere I could drop them off. 

Thank you for your compassion and all the good you have done to help so many other families.

Second Drop Off A HUGE Success!

We had our second drop off with Mary, the amazing medical social worker that we were fortunate to work with when Peyton was at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, and WOW! your generosity over the last few months has been UNBELIEVABLE!

Nearly 700 items were tagged and boxed, so many items that we had to fold the back of our SUV down just to fit them all. 

Clothing, toys, diapers, bottles, homemade blankets, pacifiers, hats, mobiles... we asked and you came through in a big way! The list of items dropped off for use by the critically ill infants and their families at CCMC goes on and on. 

Mary met us on a Monday afternoon, and we went right to work,

transferring the donated items from our SUV to her car...

At one point we worried it might not all fit...

Then we worried that Mary might not fit after all these items were added... 

The weather was much nicer for this drop off than it had been for the first one

(it was FREEZING that day),

and we were able to spend some time catching up, 
and trying for a nice group shot...

Thank you so much to all those who made this second drop off possible. Your generosity, in both helping to honor Peyton's memory, and assisting these other little warriors and their families, has been awe inspiring.

We look forward to watching this initiative grow, and to sharing the news of more drop offs in the future.

We would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU out to  Jimena Dolzadelli of Burlington, CT For sending us the following wonderful donation. Jimena was kind enough to create 17 spanish language lullabye CD's for the NICU infants at CCMC.  She designed the covers of the CD's to read: Doing Good in Her Name Honoring the memory of Peyton Elizabeth Binder          Please accept this music CD especially recorded with Spanish songs for infants and toddlers. Por favor acepte este disco de música especialmente grabado con canciones en Español para bebes y niños. Jimena then labeled each CD, and wrapped them individually for CCMC's critically ill infants in plastic to keep them sterile for distribution. Just look at all these CD's! THANK YOU SO MUCH JIMENA!

Lauren Gillespie, a counselor at the school, contacted me in January to let me know that the students at Stadley Rough had decided to do an item donation and fundraiser for Doing Good In Her Name, so that they could help the little babies being treated at CCMC. The donations came in last week, and what these elementary school students collected absolutely blew us away!

They collected bottles and bottle washers!

Plenty of pacifiers, teethers, and toys!

Books, CD's, crib sheets, some corner and outlet protectors...

Adorable outfits like this one (sorry for the sideways picture)

A wonderful batch of homemade fleece blankets... (washed and bagged)

As well as store bought blankets, a duckie bath wrap, and some socks...

And then there were the clothes.... just check out all of these beautiful items!

These ones with matching bibs were so adorable, and look at those little animal feet...

And this adorable bear outfit...

Complete with a detachable velcro tail!

In addition to the items collected, Stadley Rough's Families and Faculty donated $115 in checks, bringing our total raised to $925! Unbelievable. This money will go so far in assisting the families of the critically ill infants being treated at CCMC, by providing food and parking vouchers, as well as financial assistance.
